Oregon has adopted important climate legislation that lays the groundwork for historic climate action — but a framework isn’t enough!

We need to turn laws on paper into actual results. To lower carbon emissions as quickly and equitably as possible, we can’t just pass laws that create new programs. We have to fund them.

A budget is a statement of values. We need your help to make sure Oregon’s 2024 budget reflects the urgency of the crisis we are living through.

This short session, I urge you to demonstrate your commitment to protecting our climate and communities for future generations by prioritizing a strong climate budget.

A budget is a statement of values, and Oregon's budget needs to meet the urgency that the climate crisis demands. In order to stay on track to meet our climate goals, the legislature must ensure that Oregon’s existing climate and community protection programs are sufficiently funded.

I urge you to prioritize a Strong Climate budget in the 2024 Legislative Session, and commit to investments in several critical items, including:

1) $15 million request for the Healthy Homes program to support the long-term well-being of low-income Oregonians by supporting home upgrades that lower energy bills, improve indoor air quality, and create disaster-resilient homes

2) $20 million for the Charge Ahead Rebate program for new and used EVs for low-income Oregonians

3) $9 million for the Climate Change Fund for workers who lose wages due to wildfire smoke and extreme heat

4) $10 million for the Solar + Storage Rebate program to expand access to renewable energy for low- and moderate-income Oregonians

5) $5 million for the Oregon Rental Home Heat Pump Program to help Oregonians install life-saving, efficient heat pumps in rental, manufactured, or recreational vehicle homes

We are in the decisive decade for climate action; taking a year off will see us slide backwards at a time when we can’t afford to waver. The time to act on our values is now! Please act urgently to invest in a climate budget in 2024.
